Solar FAQ (Frequently asked questions) and answers

What guarantee do I have for my solar panel installation?

Solar Days is happy to provide the following guarantees in respect of the solar panels we install …

  • 5-year product guarantee
  • 10-year guarantee of 90% output
  • 25 year guarantee of 80% output
  • 10-year workmanship guarantee

Will I need to maintain my solar panels?

As solar panels in solar installations have no moving parts, they will require little maintenance over their lifetime.  Some arrays will benefit from occasional cleaning if they become covered in dust or dirt.  We suggest an electrical check every five years.

Do solar panel installations require planning permission?

As a general rule, no planning permission is currently required to have solar panels installed unless your building is listed (or within the grounds of a listed building), in a conservation area or world heritage site. This may vary however for much larger commercial, agricultural and industrial solar panel installations.

Does my roof need to be south facing for a solar panel installation to work?

It is not true that solar panels can only be fitted to south facing roofs. Although south facing roofs are likely to achieve best performance, solar panels can be fitted to east or west facing roofs and still perform well. As a result, many roofs may happily benefit from a solar panel installation.

How do solar panels work?

Solar panels work by using the sun’s energy and converting it into electricity which feeds directly into your home. By having a whole solar panel installation on your roof your day to day energy needs will likely to be met by using the sun’s energy.

What are the key benefits of solar panels?

There are a number of benefits to be gained from investing in a solar panel installation including reduced energy bills, making money from the Feed In Tariff, insulating yourself from volatile electricity prices, reducing your carbon footprint and making use of a safe, reliable and relatively maintenance free way of producing electricity.

When do the solar panels work?

Solar panels are powered by light, meaning they will continue to operate even if it is cloudy or raining. This does mean however that your solar panel installation will not operate at night.

Will a solar panel installation add value to my house?

With the income solar panels produce and the savings you can make on your electricity bills, having a solar panel installation on your roof can be a valuable asset when it comes to selling your house.
